Interstate Permits & Authority
If your trucks cross state lines, you’re operating under federal jurisdiction — and that means a specific set of filings, registrations, and permits stand between you and legally hauling freight. From your MC Authority and USDoT number to IRP registration and oversized load permits, each piece has its own requirements, its own timeline, and its own consequences if it’s missed. Below is everything we handle for interstate carriers, whether you’re setting up a new operation or keeping an existing fleet compliant across every state you run.
Not sure which filing you need? Let's figure it out together.
BOC-3 Filing
Before your MC Authority can be activated, the FMCSA requires you to designate a process agent in every state where you operate — that’s what a BOC-3 filing does. It’s a small piece of paperwork, but it’s a hard stop: without it on file, your authority stays inactive no matter how far along the rest of your application is. We handle the agent designation and filing on your behalf, coordinating directly with the FMCSA so there’s no delay between approval and actually being able to haul a load. If you’re setting up a new operation, this is usually one of the last boxes to check — and one of the easiest to get held up on if it’s done wrong.
ICC/MC Authority
Operating authority — commonly called MC Authority — is your legal permission to haul regulated freight across state lines for compensation. Getting it requires navigating FMCSA applications, proof of insurance, BOC-3 filings, and a series of steps that have to happen in the right order, or your application stalls. We manage the full process from start to finish: preparing the application, tracking its status, and flagging anything the FMCSA needs before it becomes a delay. Whether you’re launching a new trucking business or expanding an existing one into interstate lanes, this is the authority that makes it legal.
IFTA Registration
The International Fuel Tax Agreement exists so carriers operating across multiple states or provinces don’t have to file separate fuel tax reports in each one — instead, you report quarterly through a single base jurisdiction. Getting registered correctly from the start matters, because errors in your IFTA setup tend to resurface as headaches at every quarterly filing after. We get your registration set up properly and make sure your base jurisdiction, fleet information, and reporting structure are all in order, so quarterly filings become routine instead of something you dread.
Running behind on a renewal? We can get you back on track fast.
Unified Carrier Registration (UCR)
If you operate commercial vehicles across state lines, UCR is an annual registration you can’t skip — it funds state safety enforcement programs, and the fee scales with the number of vehicles in your fleet. Missing the deadline can mean fines or complications at roadside inspections, even if every other part of your operation is fully compliant. We track your UCR renewal date, file it before it becomes a problem, and make sure your fleet count is reported accurately so you’re not overpaying or under-registered. It’s a small annual task, but one that’s easy to let slip without a system tracking it.
USDoT Number
Your USDoT number is the foundation almost everything else gets built on — it’s how the FMCSA identifies your operation, tracks your safety record, and ties together your other filings like MC Authority, IFTA, and UCR. If you’re a new owner-operator or starting a new trucking business, this is typically the very first step, before anything else can move forward. We handle the application and make sure your operation is classified correctly from the outset, since mistakes here tend to create complications down the line with every filing that references it.
Oversized Load Permits
Loads that exceed standard legal size or weight limits require permits that vary — sometimes significantly — from state to state, covering things like route restrictions, escort requirements, and travel time windows. A permit valid in one state won’t necessarily cover you in the next, which is where a lot of carriers run into trouble on multi-state hauls. We handle both single-trip and annual permits, mapping out exactly what each state on your route requires so your load stays fully legal from origin to delivery, with no surprises at a weigh station.
